The Caged Heart

I am watching a Lifetime movie right now called The Caged Heart and it's beginning to really piss me off. Why? Because this counselor, who is really a smart cookie, falls for a convict and loses her smarts. In fact, she becomes so blinded by love that she helps him get paroled and moves him into her house. The way things are looking right now, she's about to get more than her heart broken.  I dated an ex-con a few months ago and that's another thing that's pissing me off. This movie is making me think about him, his hard, tattooed body and his bad attitude. Argh.

California School Standoff Ends Peacefully

Thank God! A student at a high school in Oroville, California was taken into custody with no incident after holding hostages for more than an hour. Reports from this article released one minute ago at CNN News says that one shot was fired into the air, but that was the extent of the violence, and that schools in that northern California district were locked down during the standoff. What a different outcome! And again, thank God.

Lindsay Lohan Loving Rehab

Word has it that Lindsay Lohan is in no hurry to leave the Utah rehab, Cirque Lodge, where she has been staying for almost two months. Her mother e-mailed Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush and had this to say, “Not true, staying in Utah,” when he asked whether the stories were true that Lindsay was leaving rehab. A Chicago Sun-Times source also said that, "After initial searches for a few “halfway” or “transitional” locations for Lindsay, the actress, her family and team of counselors and advisers have decided it’s best LiLo remain at the Cirque Lodge in Utah for a bit longer.” Smart girl. It's a jungle out there.

Discussion About Associated Content

I have opened the floor for discussion and opinions about Associated Content at Freelancing Journey. I hope that you will join in and help me decide if I am being fair or unfair with my last post. I received a comment from the founder of AC to that post. You can read the details on my blog post here, where the discussion is going on. I look forward to your input.

Help!

I told you that I met a guy at Starbucks Wednesday for coffee, right? Well if I didn't I'm telling you now. I met him on the dating site I belong to and talked to him on the phone a couple of times before we decided to meet. We had a very nice conversation, sitting outside on the Starbucks patio under a full moon. Our visit lasted about an hour and was not awkward at all. He called me when he got home and asked me for a date for tonight. I accepted, but now, the more the time goes by today, the more I don't want to go!! What the hell is wrong with me? Well, for one thing, I know, is that I am not physically attracted to him. But I have been telling myself that those are the guys I need to avoid like the plague. He is such a nice person and I don't want to hurt his feelings but I don't want to go! Help me if you can. I need your input. This is about the third time this has happened.

Shakira Donates $40 Million

Shakira has announced that she will donate $40 million from the Latin American Solidarity Foundation, an organization she co-founded with Gabriel Garcia Marquez, to help people in disaster struck areas. WOW! That is a lot of moolah.  The money will be used to aid Peruvian earthquake victims, as well as hurricane suffering in Nicaragua.  Shakira decision came after visiting these sites in person. She told press, “I’ve seen first-hand many of the challenges facing Latin America. These are challenging problems that no one person can address, but working together everyone can help make a difference.” What a woman!

Micheal Moore on Oprah

Michael Moore is on Oprah today and they are talking about his new documentary, "Sicko" which takes a hard look, as Moore is famous and often hated for doing, at the health care crisis in America. It is a very emotional show, with the audience heavily involved, and Oprah standing strong on the fact that America has a horrible problem concerning health care. I have no health insurance so this show is of great interest to me. If you are reading this, tune in quick and catch the last half. They are really just getting warmed up.

I am Hooked on Dancing With the Stars!

Well it's official. After watching all three nights of the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars I am hooked! When this show first came out I thought it sounded hokey. But folks, I gotta tell you, I don't think I have ever had so much fun with my clothes on! The energy is what did it. These people are having a blast. But never for once think that they aren't in it to win. I love that competitive spirit. I will be a loyal fan of Dancing With the Stars for the duration of the season. You can bet on that. If you have never watched it I really would advise you to. There aren't that many shows on TV that offer this much entertainment.

Is Madeleine Really Missing?

I was reading this article at CNN News, my favorite source of breaking news, by the way, that says the missing child of doctors, The McCanns, who were vacationing in Portugal's Algarve region with their children was thought to have been spotted. But later reports came back that it wasn't her. The couple has been named as possible suspects in the disappearance of their child. They said they were having dinner at a restaurant while their children slept at their hotel May 3, and discovered Madeleine was gone when they checked in on them.
News of the missing wide-eyed girl has grabbed headlines across the globe and moved celebrities such as soccer star David Beckham to make public pleas for the girl's safe return.

Do you believe the parents were involved? I sure hope not, but so often it has come to light in similar cases that they were. I guess only time will tell.

Back to Dating

I know by now you guys must be wondering if I am crazy. I am not, but I am confused. I am lonely for the company of men. I like men. I like to kiss them, I like to run around with them and have fun. So what if I got my heart broke? It isn't like I haven't had it broken before. There is no sense in me giving up on romance just because I got burned. So I have decided to join the land of dating again. Gotta get back in that saddle. I have a girl friend who told me yesterday that I would never get over this broken heart until I got back out there. So here I go! I'll let you know how things turn out.

George Clooney on The Golden Girls

Yes, you heard me right! I was watching The Golden Girls yesterday morning and there were two men who came to the house to use the ladies place as a stakeout to watch a house next door where illegal acts were going on. One of the men, well I kept looking at him, this young hunk, thinking, "Man he looks familiar." The reason he looked so familiar is that is was a very young George Clooney! You should have seen him. His hair was long and shaggy and his teeth were crooked! That was very surreal. George is ten times better looking now than he was then. (Although he was cute when he was younger, don't get me wrong.)

Giselle Speaks Out about Beckhams

Giselle Bundchen, the Brazilian model who is now dating New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, was quoted in an interview as saying that she’s sick of comparisons between her and Tom to David and Victoria Beckham. Giselle was quoted as saying, “Nooo! That is crazy! I don’t know who said that. My job is my job and my private life is my private life. They have nothing to do with each other.” She added that she thinks Posh and Becks spend too much time in the spotlight, and that she thinks she’d go “crazy” if that happened to her. “My job is public, and it’s important to have something for yourself. If you don’t, you go crazy.” I have to agree with her. I get sick of seeing Posh all over the place. Why doesn't she get a life outside of shopping?

Keifer Sutherland Gets DUI

You know, it occurs to me, reading about yet about yet another celebrity being arrested for DUI, that as much money as these folks have why don't they take a cab after they have been out partying? There is nothing wrong with having a few, or even more than a few, if you aren't getting behind the wheel of a car. I refuse to, although I will admit I did drink and drive in my younger days. It's a stupid, stupid thing to do and I was lucky that I never hurt anyone or went to jail. Anyway, the details on Keifer's arrest: He was stopped at La Cienega and Beverly at 1:35 a.m and after failing a field sobriety test was charge with misdemeanor DUI by the Los Angeles Police Department. Kiefer was released at 5:42 AM on $25,000 bail and was reported as being “cooperative and mellow” while in police custody.

Is it 2008 Yet?

I will be SO glad when George W. Bush is out of the White House. I was reading CNN News this morning and find this story about how G.W. is challenging the United Nations, (he's a powerful little man, isn't he?) to sanction countries where people are suffering from lack of freedom, poverty and violence.

I guess this is just one more smoke screen to take attention away from the mess he has made in Iraq. But the guy is clueless and that makes him dangerous. What about people who are suffering in our own country? Jeez, I give up.

About Lifetime Movies

I always have the TV on between 8 and 11 am while I am blogging. I watch two episodes of the Golden Girls, two of Frasier and two of Will & Grace. Makes for a really pleasant morning. But at 11 there is always a movie on Lifetime. I am sitting here laughing right now as I watch, well, not really watch but observe, yet another crazy female killing everyone off over a man. Lifetime has some good movies sometimes, but you'd think they'd get tired of that same old plot. What do you think? Are you a fan of Lifetime and the kind of movies I am talking about?

I'm Not Moving Home

By now you probably think I am crazy. My family does. But I found out this morning that where my parents live, ten miles out in the country, you can't get high speed internet, and that means that I won't be moving. Although I am prone to changing my mind, and often, this one wasn't my fault, but you couldn't tell my son that. I guess when I get inspired to do something I shouldn't call him, because I often change my mind after I have told him what I am going to do and I am tired of him thinking I'm nuts. I am tired of changing my mind for that matter. And now I am just going to stay right where I am and be happy.

Britney's Former Bodyguard Testifies

Britney Spears' custody battle against Kevin Federline is underway and Tony Barretto, Britney's former bodyguard, is a witness against Britney. Tony's testimony was not made public, but recently Barretto told British tabloid News Of The World, “I gave evidence to the court because Britney is out of control and needs help. I have done this for her children. She’s not a good mother. She has mental problems. With her drug and booze issues, her home is no place for kids to be raised.”

Tony said, “There were times when Britney appeared to be under the influence near them. It was frightening.” Barretto was reportedly fired for “not hearing Britney ask him to pick up her hat.” He claims ithat his testimony will help Britney get a grip. “I hope this will be a wake-up call to her. I like Britney. All I want is for her to be a success and a good mom.” Tony said.

Going Home

I am going home! I have been saying that I was going to save up my money to move back to my hometown, but I had a crisis of the heart the morning and called my stepmother. She is the only mother I have ever known, and I have told myself for years that she didn't love me. Turns out I was wrong. I have hidden myself away, shut out those who cared about me, to the point that I believed no one really cared about me. Grieving can make you do that. However, when I finally broke down this morning and told her how I felt, isolated, lonely, and homesick, she welcomed me home with open arms. So I am moving this week. Thank God I made that phone call.

Hillary Takes Early Lead in Democratic Voting Polls

Well here we go, folks! The Huffington Post reports something that I frankly find surprising, that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has consolidated her early lead in the Democratic presidential contest. I was talking a few days ago about how I thought that our country isn't ready for a woman president. Not that I wouldn't vote for Hillary, I am most likely going to, I just didn't think we were progressive enough to go there yet. Maybe I will be proven wrong.Hell, having a woman in charge might be the best thing that ever happened to this country.

Is Charlie Sheen a Pervert Dad?

I read this article this morning that says Denise Richards has asked a judge to stop allowing ex-husband and star of the show Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen, to have overnight visits with their two daughters. Richards claims that the girls, Sam, 3, and Lola, 2, come home after every overnight stay at Charlie's house upset and not wanting to go back. Denise has even said she feels the girls need therapy. She claims that Charlie watches porn on the internet, imagine that, while the girls are there.

Mmmmhhhh, I don't care for porn, but I don't think Charlie Sheen is stupid enough or that he would be the kind of father that would watch it with his little girls in the room. Sounds to me like Denise Richards is just used to having things her way. Well, Denise, this ain't Burger King and Charlie has a right to be a father to his kids. Just because you don't want to be married to him doesn't change the fact that he's their dad.

Sex in the City Movie

Did you know that they are making a Sex in the City movie? I sure didn't. I need to stay more up to date on what's going on, why don't you help me?  Anyway, the word is that film crews are on Manhattan's upper East Side to begin production of the film version of Sex in the City. Sarah Jessica Parker was the first to film, playing her popular character Carrie Bradshaw. She was spotted across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art getting ready for the role. According to New York Daily News, the film, which has been three years coming, (what rock HAVE I been living under?) finally got approved for filming this past summer. “In July, New Line and HBO finally announced their partnership on the movie to be helmed by director/producer Michael Patrick King, with backing from John Melfi, series creator Darren Star and Parker. In the same breath, the studio confirmed the four central actresses: Parker, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, Kristen Davis as Charlotte York and Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones." said the New York Daily News. You know those gals are going to have a blast filming this movie. The release date is set for mid-to-late 2008.

Justin Timberlake on Oprah

Justin Timberlake was on Oprah for the first time on Wednesday, September 19th, and I gotta tell you, I had no idea until I watched the show that he was so sexy and so talented! Oprah stated that the word is out that Justin Timberlake brought back sexy. I can see why everyone is saying that, he practically oozes charisma and is one very cool dude. But he's also sweet! That is a big part of his charm. His mom was in the audience and she said the thing she was most proud of was the fact that Justin was a good person. When Oprah asked him how he stayed grounded, when women are constantly adoring him, with stunts like putting their panties on their heads at his concerts, Justin Timberlake, with boyish charm, but the good, down to earth kind, said that he always remembered what his mom told him, that we all put our pants on the same way,one leg at a time, and that what we do is not who we are.

I thought I was gonna die when Oprah turned the subject to his romantic life and Justin Timberlake said he sniffed out his dates, then began sensually sniffing the air, here and there, shaking his head no first, then sniffing again and, oh yes, shaking his head yes with a big sexy smile. Hot! The women in the audience were going wild the whole time. He had them eating out of his hand. Though Cameron Diaz was never mentioned, which shows how much class both Oprah and Justin have, she did ask him if he was dating anyone and he said yes. But again, a class act like Justin would not divulge who it was he is dating. He just said that she smelled really good. (That sniffing thing again, I don't think I will ever look at sniffing the same way.) She also asked him what he thought was going on with Britney Spears. Remember, they used to date about 100 years ago? He said he hadn't spoken to Britney in several years, and that he had no idea what was up with her. He added that he didn't know her very well anymore. He didn't say it in a snobby way. He was just being frank. But he did, in Britney's defense, say that she was a great person and had a big heart.

Oprah mentioned that there was speculation that Britney had had a nervous breakdown. Is that what they call it still, when you start doing stupid stuff all the time, drinking and drugging and not taking care of your kids? I thought that was just being stupid and irresponsible. Anyway, back to Justin Timberlake. He winded up his appearance by performing his song "What Goes Around." I sat watching with my jaw dropping as the voice of an angel came flowing out of this hottie, as he played the piano and the guy with the guitar turned Oprah's studio into a rock and roll dream. Justin Timberlake has a new fan. Me.

Somebody Stop This Guy!

I can't believe this guy. I don't know who he is anymore. He once was a great football player named O.J. Simpson, Remember that guy? The one who raced through airports for Hertz? Now that he has been arrested in Las Vegas on 11 felony counts, a few of those being robbery and kidnapping, after deciding that some sports memorabilia with his name on it, even though it was the property of someone else, belonged to him, I wonder if he even knows who he is anymore.

It wasn't enough that O.J. Simpson got away with murdering his ex-wife and her boyfriend, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, but then he wrote a book called, "If I Did It" describing, in what he claimed were hypothetical terms, how the murders were carried out. They need to lock this guy up in a very small room with padded cells. Jeez O.J., whatever happened to The Juice?  Now you are just sad and worse than pathetic.

Associated Content Gets $10 Million in Funding

I have read a lot of skepticism across the internet over the last few years concerning Associated Content. When I first signed up two years ago, though AC was going strong, it was not that well respected in writing circles. But I have discovered over the years that writers are by nature a snobby lot. And the reality is that not everyone can, or wants to , be a writer for the big glossy magazines or a full-time, high paid copywriter. Different strokes for different folks.

But just so you know, things have changed at AC over the last few years, and they've changed a lot. Associated Content has worked its way up the ladder to respect and is touted across the web as THE PEOPLE'S MEDIA COMPANY. Proof of this comes from their recent acquisition of $10 million in funding. Read the article about the funding with facts about AC at Venture Magazine.

If you are thinking of becoming a writer for Associated Content, you can rest assured that you will be working for a legitimate and respected company. And for your education my next post will cover what it takes to get started with AC and tips on how to command top dollar for your articles.

One by One, Britney's People Bailing Out

It looks like Britney Spears will end up being one of those celebrities doing commercials for car insurance before it's all over with. Her former bodyguard, Tony Baretto, has turned on her, ready to testify about his former boss' love of nudity and drug use. He will also voice his concerns about the safety of her children while in her care.

Also, in Monday's closed-door hearing, which was the last for her lawyer, Laura Wasser, who insisted she wasn't bailing on her client, but the fact that there is already a replacement in the form of Marci Levine says otherwise. Strike number three is the management company Britney Spears hired a month ago to help launch her new album has dropped her, explaining, "Current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job." Have you thought of putting in a call to Geico, Britney?

Jury Deadlocked in Murder Case of Phil Spector

Only half an hour ago it was announced that the nine-man, three-woman jury in the murder trial of music producer Phil Spector, (man he is a spooky looking dude or what?) who was charged with second-degree murder in the death of actress Lana Clarkson, 40. Spector was accused of shooting Clarkson in his mansion, but the defense maintained that she shot herself. I guess it's a case of his word against that of a dead woman.

Finding Balance

I am somehow drawn to posting personal stuff on this blog, even though I call this my personal blog. I think it's because when I set this up I left myself open with the word "Views," giving me the chance to state my opinion on just about anything. Besides, my my blog, A Writer's Journey, has my resume and published work, and I give the link out to prospective clients. This has created a sense of caution in sharing too much personal information anymore. People do judge you, no matter that you wish differently.

Anyway, with that said, what I would like to share with you today is my challenge of finding balance in life. I am in my early 50s and I think that, along with things that have happened to me over the last few years, have forced me to dig deep inside, to figure out how to be happy, or at least content, in my years climbing over the hill.

I see now that I have lived in such chaos, I was raised in chaos, that I don't feel comfortable when life is just, well, regular. I am reminded of the words to the song DESPERADO, "you're losing all your highs and lows, ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?" That's where I am. My highs have worn me out and my lows were literally the pits.

I feel calm today, for you know they say that acknowledging a problem is the first step to fixing it.

What about you? Do you find it hard to live like normal people do? I often discover that many writers feel this way, preferring to live a life of fantastical things in our mind rather than accept the fact that life is sometimes, well, just life, and that there is nothing bad happening, but neither is there nothing good happening.
That is when it's time to start being grateful just to be alive and healthy.

Saving Money to Go Home

I have been thinking for a long time about moving from Dallas back to my hometown of Waxahachie. Below is a picture of the famous Ellis County Courthouse in Waxahachie, where I worked in the county clerk's office, my first job out of high school.

I miss my home and my family and friends who are there. But my problem has been making the decision to work extra so that I can save the money to go home. Well, as of yesterday I have finally made that decision and have figured out a way to save the money. I predict it will take me between 6 months and a year to have enough to move and get a car. The way I am going to make extra money is by marketing my articles and writing new articles for pay at Associated Content, plus the money I save from working full-time for PayPerPost after my bills are paid. I am good at sticking to a budget so this is a very doable plan. I am very excited and feel a strong sense of hope, thank God, for the first time in a long time. Living in the underbelly of East Dallas is not conducive to hope, one more reason I need to get out of here

Health Care Major Campaign Issue

It is becoming apparent from this article about Hillary Clinton's proposed health care plan that the issue of health care in America is going to be one of the major platforms and possibly a big voter decision maker when it comes election time. That's my prediction anyway. But maybe that's because I am one of the millions of Americans who doesn't have health insurance. I can't afford it, no way. I work as a freelancer, man! There is no company to pay part of the cost.

The article I linked to refers to the health care plans that have also been proposed by Obama and Edwards. Good read.

Speaking of Presidential Candidates

I am really wondering how much of a chance Hillary Clinton has at becoming our next president. You want my personal opinion? I don't think this country is ready for a woman president. Wait, I didn't say that a woman couldn't do a great job, hell, a monkey could do a better job than George W. Bush has done. What I am saying is that I don't think the majority of people are ready emotionally for a female in office. There are still too many old people who think that a woman's place is in the home, and I am not talking about the White House (home). Maybe in twenty years, when this batch of close minded old foggies are dead and gone, but now not. I would be shocked if she won, let's just say that.

Enough is Enough

I guess I am done with men. For a while anyway. Remember a few posts back when I said I was supposed to go out with a 74 year old man and I backed out? Well, Saturday I was supposed to go for a ride on a brand new frigging Harley with a guy about my age and I backed out! I couldn't believe it. But I got so damn nervous I couldn't think straight and called him and told him I didn't feel well.

The reason I don't feel well is because I am not interested in pretending to be interested in ANY man right now. This is weird for me, a first, but I gotta follow my instincts. I just hope this passes. But when you have been through as many relationships as I have the time finally comes, I am seeing, when it is NOT time to get back in the saddle.

OJ Simpson Certifiably Insane?

Man, this dude is KARAAZEE! Like a fox, I might add. First he gets away with killing his ex-wife and her boyfriend. Now he decides that the sports memorabilia with his name on it still actually belongs to him, never mind the fact that someone else paid good money for it.

OJ is in jail without bail--thank you!--after being arrested for taking sports memorabilia from two men in a Las Vegas hotel room Thursday. One of the men involved, Bruce Fromong, described it as "a home invasion-type robbery" involving Simpson and several companions, two who pointed guns at people in the room.

The other victim, Alfred Beardsley, is quoted at TMZ.com as saying that Simpson later apologized to him and told him he regretted the incident. (Right, after he got caught, sure he regretted it) Simpson says he entered the room with a group of friends, one of whom was posing as a potential buyer, after being tipped off that some of his personal items were for sale there. He said his friends helped him carry the items from the room, but that no guns were involved. He didn't consider the incident a robbery.

But Las Vegas police Lt. Clint Nichols said the search included the seizure of two guns during the investigation. Oh, my, did OJ LIE? Imagine that.

Here We Go!

Welcome to my Associated Content blog. If you read the "About" section of my sidebar you will see that I have started this blog with the purpose of learning how to become one of the most successful writers at Associated Content. I have been writing for AC for several years but there have been so many great changes going on there over the last few months, changes I will chronicle for you, that I decided it was time to crank things up and get a big piece of the pie.

I blogged about my history with AC and my decision to write for them again on my blog, Freelancing Journey.   I will be updating the sidebar as I go, pimping this blog so that eventually it will be a great source of learning for new AC writers. I hope you will take the time to visit my AC page and even subscribe! I look forward to taking you on this journey to success with me. Hold on tight, because here we go!

The Emmy's are Tonight!

Have you got your TV tuned to Fox? Thank goodness I was checking out the TV guide because I didn't know that the Emmy's come on tonight. I don't watch that much TV at night, I usually read instead, but I DO love award shows, and especially the Emmy's. Here are a few interesting facts about this year's awards:

  • The Sopranos" is up for 15 awards, including best drama for its final season

  • "Ugly Betty" leads all comedies with 11 nominations

  • Former Vice President Al Gore could be an Emmy winner

Vera Wang on Oprah

I never knew that you could buy Vera Wang fashions so cheap! What the heck is going on? Vera Wang is on Oprah right now and she has dresses that are under $20! I thought Vera Wang only made evening gowns for famous people! Well I guess I learned a thing or two today.

This is a new line and what came to mind is when Sarah Jessica Parker was on Oprah a few months ago with her new line of really affordable women's fashions. Did Vera get the idea there? I don't know, but I sure am glad she decided to join the mainstream.

The Damon Carroll Band

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Damon Carroll last week. I was in the Winedale Tavern on Lower Greenville in Dallas, a quaint little bar I like to visit a couple of times a month and the only seat available along the bar was next to me so Damon asked if I minded if he sat there.

The first thing I noticed about this biker was his aura, an enthusiastic happiness emanated from him. We got to talking and he told me about his band, but what I liked is that he was just so matter of fact, humble I'd say, about a band that sounds so damned good! How do I know that? Because he gave me a copy of their new CD, Live @ Pickin' in the Pines. I am listening to it now and I gotta tell you, my foot can't stop tapping. This is some good music, guys and gals. Damon has a voice that is unique, but brought to mind a sort of James Taylor meets Leon Russell, with Crosby Stills and Nash playing in the background.

I Just Can't Do It!

I met a guy on an online dating site and have been talking to him over the phone this week. He seems like a great guy. BUT, we are supposed to go on a date Saturday and the closer Saturday gets the more I don't want to go. I am thinking of deleting my profile from the dating site. The only thing that is stopping me is that I have made some friends there. Maybe I should just change what I am looking for to "friends?"

Because I am realizing that I am not ready to date. The last thing I want in my life right now is a relationship. I know he's going to call tonight and I should wait and tell him then, but I am chicken and am just thinking about sending him a message through the site.

What do you think? Is that fair or cowardly? (by the way, he was talking bad about a guy he works for, how they made fun of him--he's a few bricks shy of a load--and how funny it was, that was the thing that actually got me to rethinking this date before I realized that I don't want to date ANYBODY right now)

TMZ and Perez Hit the Big Time

I just read a great article at C/Net News giving an overview of the new TV shows of the celebrity gossip blogs TMZ and Perez Hilton. I had no idea this was going on. That means I need to stay in the loop more. However, I won't be rushing over to the TV to watch either one. I just can't see celebrity gossip on a blog translating to good television, and obviously the writer at C/Net agrees with me.

"The creators of TMZ TV and What Perez Sez are hoping to avoid the pitfalls of predecessors like iVillage's talk show. But it's not easy to translate a conglomeration of written gossip and YouTube videos into a half-hour or hour-long TV program." I just can't believe we live in a world where a blogger as nasty as Mario from Perez Hilton gets a TV show. Jeez. What next? Voyeurism in the toilet? Wait, that's the same thing isn't it?

Lindsay Lohan's Former Bodyguard Spills the Beans

Lindsey Lohan's former bodyguard Lee Weaver has told the world what we all suspected but didn’t know for sure. I wonder how much he got paid to rat her out? Weaver says that Lindsay has always felt that she was responsible for her father’s imprisonment, causing her to escape reality with her drug and alcohol use.

Lee Weaver says he never saw Lindsay actually doing drugs, but he told the  press about late night trips to shady neighborhoods to pick up packages. “One time I questioned her ‘what’s down here?’ Weaver was reported as saying. “And she said ‘Oh I know a couple of friends, somebody called me and they got an idea for a movie, but deep inside I knew what was going on because she wasn’t my first client that I used to follow to certain places.”
The former bodyguard also told of some crazy nights at Nicole Richie’s house. “I knew once we got there it would be another 10 hours. I would say, ‘How are you up this late? You’re not tired? You’re beat, I’m beat.’ Then I would look at the table and see all kinds of stuff.” Weaver claims.

Remembering 9/11

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the bombing of the World Trade Center. That day changed the face of America forever. Fear of invasion was never something we as Americans had experienced in the history of our country. It changed us forever.

Today let's take time to remember those who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy and be grateful that further invasions have been thwarted repeatedly. We do live in a great country, no matter how bleak the political climate appears at times.

New Indiana Jones Movie!

The title of the new "Indiana Jones" movie, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford, has been revealed:  "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" will be in theaters May 22, 2008.  The title of this very long-awaited fourth installment of the adventure series was announced by Shia LaBeouf, who co-stars with Harrison Ford in the film, at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas last night.

The new adventure is set in the 1950s, also stars Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent and Karen Allen. Sean Connery, who played dad to Ford's globe-trotting archaeologist in 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," will not reprise the role in this newest installment.  The series began in 1981 with the first movie, "Raiders of the Lost Ark," followed by "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" in 1984.

Arrington Hits Below the Belt

I realize that Michael Arrington of Tech Crunch has it in for PayPerPost and has since the beginning. But this time he has gone too far. PayPerPost had a weekend training session, a team building exercise, where they dressed up as Indians. So what is the big deal? Well, Arrington is pulling the racism card, ridiculously claiming that was PPP did was insulting to Native Americans.

If you read the ton of comments, which translates to page views and increased income for Arrington, by the way, you will see that the majority of people think he's being totally unfair with his latest attack on Ted Murphy and PPP and that his main objective is monetary gain, his own. It really does make me wonder how much he doesn't like PPP and how much of his horn blowing is revenue driven.

Man Survives for Week in Overturned Car

You have really got to see this video. A Maryland college student who flipped his car in an embankment is alive and well after living trapped in the car for a week. I am near speechless, because I had a wreck once and was trapped in the truck for hours. I cannot even fathom a week.

This just goes to show what the power of the human spirit is capable of. Be sure to watch this one, it will give you chill bumps. The video is courtesy of CNN News.

Happy Friday!

Man am I ever glad it's Friday! I have worked hard this week and I am ready to chill out tonight with this really good book I started reading yesterday called SHEER ABANDON by Penny Vincenzi. I am not usually into women's fiction, but this one caught me by surprise and I have to say I am enjoying the heck out of it.

That may not sound like a very exciting Friday night, but I am trying to reorganize my life. I am beginning to see that it's time for me to put away my bar hopping clothes and become the lady I have always wanted to be. I have rebelled against doing this on sheer principle. Men do whatever they want, why is it that after a certain age women are frowned upon for doing the same? But you know what I am figuring out? I don't WANT to be in a bar on Friday nights anymore. I did my time, got plenty of t-shirts, I am a grandma now and I want to extend my range of experience to include many other things than partying. I am checking into joining to YMCA next week. That's a first step and I feel good about it. Anyway, enough rambling, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

I will be waiting tables and I am proud of it

I have decided that I need to make some extra money. I want to move back to my hometown and it's going to take money to get me there. Soooo, I decided today that I am going to start looking for a job waiting tables a couple of nights a week. I am very excited about this, for besides the money, I spend far too much time alone. Being around people, fellow workers and families eating, joining the land of the living outside this computer, in other words, is something I need desperately to do. Wish me luck!

The Poet's heart is full of romance

The heart of a poet is so misunderstood by the average person. And no, this does NOT make a poet feel superior. If anything, it makes them feel separate in a way that is probably not healthy. I have been writing poetry, been a soul of thought, a person who lives the life of the mind and the heart, since I was a very young girl. People, what is considered normal people, have always called me "crazy" or "out there." That really hurts, even though I have never told them so. They laugh when they say it, they mean no harm, but if they could live in my head for a day they would understand that to be deep or emotional is not crazy. The way the world is and the cruelty that folks bestow upon one another makes me wonder if I am sane and the rest of the world are the ones who are crazy, as a matter of fact. Just sayin'.

My thoughts on dating older men

I went out last night with a man who is 74-years-old. He has been a friend for a couple of years, but his wife recently died and he asked me if I wanted to do something. I told him that I had been wanting to check out this club down the road that has Karaoke on Tuesday nights. He was all for that. But hey, I sang one song, had one drink, and was ready to go home. Why? Not because I didn't like him, he was a perfect gentleman, but I was tired!

Don't ever think that because someone is 74 that they are old. This dude took me home and was going somewhere else to party! Just goes to show you really are as old as you feel. I plan to go out with him again. The next time we are going dancing. I guess I better take a nap beforehand, huh?

Halle Berry Is Pregnant

This is SUCH good news! Halle Berry has had such bad luck with love, but now the rumors about her being pregnant by Gabriel Aubry, a thirty two year old model she met during a photo shoot for Versace in November of 2005, are true. At least if the romance doesn't work out Halle will finally be a mama and have a love in her life that will never leave.  Halle told press, “I want my kids to realize it’s only through hard work that any success or real joy comes. It’s not about money; it’s the intangible rewards – having integrity and doing what you say you’re going to do.”

Halle told Oprah the last time she was on her show that she was done with marriage. Looks like motherhood has not changed her mind about that because she told the press, “Actually, it’s just that now I’ve come to a place where I think two people can share their lives without the ring, without the piece of paper.” Congratulations, Halle!

Terrorist Attack on U.S. German Holdings Foiled

I just read at CNN News that German police arrested three suspected Islamic militants who were planning "massive" and "imminent" attacks on American targets in Germany.  "The main motivation of the group in Germany is hatred against American citizens and therefore they had as main targets the American military installations," Jorg Ziercke, president of Germany's Federal Criminal Investigation Office, said. "This could also of course have affected German citizens in restaurants and other places." Authorities would not elaborate on whether Ramstein Air Base -- this is where my son was stationed for 6 years!--the U.S. military's main installation in Germany-- or the major international hub of Frankfurt Airport, were among the targets. "There are, of course, strong grounds to believe that it could also have been directed at American military installations ... it also could also have been Frankfurt airport, we can't really rule that out," German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said. The suspects are two German converts to Islam, who are 22 and 29 years old, and a 29-year-old Turk. They were picked up Tuesday after a series of raids in 30 places across Germany. Thank God.

Lifetime Movies

I can't believe that I have gotten hooked on Lifetime movies. You know the ones, where the guy is clean cut, wholesome, perfect husband material, but then turns out to be a monster. I am watching a movie right now called DEATH OF A CHEERLEADER where the unpopular girl finally loses it after being hazed by the popular ones and stabs the head cheerleader, who is played by none other than Tori Spelling.

What is it about these movies that has me so entranced? I think maybe it's because they portray life as more exciting, unusual and different from what it is. But I am worried. What next, am I going to be the oldest cliche in the world, an older woman who gets her only satisfaction from reading romance novels? God, I hope not.

Kid Rock Rocks!

I don't care what the naysayers spout about Kid Rock, I love him. He is hot, hot, hot, and talented too. I always play his songs on the jukebox at the club I go to. Kid is down to earth, he ain't fake, so I was not surprised when the uber-fake Pamela Anderson was out of the picture. Everyone assumes she was the one who broke up with him, but I have to wonder. I read at the Gossip Girls that Kid was seen chumming it up with Paris Hilton at the weekend party she threw at her Malibu home, even disappearing inside with the scandalous lady for several hours. The Gossip Girls post called him "laughable." Whatever. At least he's not plastic.

Central America Slammed by Hurricane Felix

Hurricane Felix is heading towards Central America. The category 5 storm, which is packing 165 mph winds, moved across the Caribbean early Monday, the National Hurricane Center said. This satellite image, taken at 4:15 a.m. ET on Monday, shows Felix at Category 5 stage. As the storm closed on the Central American coastline, the Honduran government issued a hurricane warning from Limon to its border with Nicaragua. A tropical storm watch remained in effect for Jamaica and for Grand Cayman Island. The NHC said that the storm was likely to remain strong -- as a Category 5 or Category 4 -- over the next day or two. Forecasts called for Felix to pass just north of the Honduran coast before possibly hitting Belize on Tuesday or Wednesday, said CNN meteorologist Jacqui Jeras. Felix is then expected to cross the Yucatan Peninsula and head out over the Gulf of Mexico. Any potential direct impact on the United States would come no sooner than Friday or Saturday along the Texas coast, Jeras added.
